Just finishing up my first mandolin build. Thanks to all the help that this board has provided. I have wood ordered to start 2 more. It's sooo much fun. I have a lot to learn yet and had to correct many mistakes, but I'm really looking forward to getting this one buffed and starting over.

I like the color you got on the front, nice job.

I''d be tempted not to buff it. It looks just like a 1920's Gibson F :) would look by now.

Good work

Pretty neat for number 1. Way to go.

I wouldn't buff it either.

It has character right now just the way it is.

That's beautiful. It must be satisfying to build an instrument on your own. That's something I want to do - looking forward to my retirement when I might actually have the time to try. How does it sound? Have you built other fretted instruments before?

Jimmy, That's nice! I love the dark top. Awesome work!

This is not only the first instrument I have built, it's the first thing I have ever built out of wood. I have about 8 years before I retire and wanted something to do then.

It sounds very good. With the stings open it's awesome, but when noted it's a little choked. I built the bridge and the compensation is not exact. I'll build another saddle this week to see that helps.

Looks very "vintage-y" to me the way it is. Well done!!
