Isn't pumpkin what happens to blondes? Just guessing.

It's not blonde which would be all natural, no stain. It has had the usual Gibson stain applied that either was or turns orange with age that most would refer to as pumpkin. I'm not sure if Gibson ever listed the color as pumpkin, maybe they did.

I'll say. The back, headstock, and tuner buttons really grab me. I'd keep it as a family heirloom.

Wonderful F4 Shane, those are my absolute favorites.. the last 3pointers and the first 2pointers shared that color scheme.

The orange color lived on as the top for A models for some time, and also featured in the center of the sunburst on the brown/red/orange F4s. It is, as Gail says, definitely a stain color. I suspect it darkens with time from various examples I've seen.

I'm not sure exactly how much time affects the varnish/shellac, but the chips of finish that sometimes come off the inlay on instruments do have a yellowish tint to them. I'd suspect that when brand new & pristine, the color was a bit lighter, but still pumpkin to orange in color.
