it doesn't look like koa to me -- more like mahogany. I have a few all mahogany flatbacks pictured in Tonk and Wurlitzer catalogs but none have exactly that pickguard.

Not koa... the grain is too even throughout for that. There are a number of different mahoganies, some that look more like koa and some that look more like the "modern" hog we're used to... I can't remember off the top of my head which ones are which but a lot of Regal ukes made in the 1920s had curly Cuban mahogany that looked an awful lot like koa but just wasn't quite the same stuff.

The color scheme really works with the dark mahogany and that tortise celluloid pickguard. A beauty for sure.
