Hi guys, I have been lurking for a day or two and finally decided to introduce myself and my mandolin. I have been playing for about 2 months, I played guitar for 8 years and just recently made the jump to the mando. Mainly because I was raised listening to Irish music and also bluegrass and country. It has been a great change and honestly I havent picked up my guitar in these past months, because of how much I enjoy playing the mando.

Now here is the wierd part. I live in Mexico (married a beautiful girl down here only a few years ago) and by happenstance came upon this old mandolin through a woman we go to church with. She sold it to me for about $45 American Dollars and so I figured what the heck. It is made of "Palo Escrito" which would be rosewood, and it appears that the back and sides are of this wood, but the top I am not sure. It has a decent sound however I have NEVER played any other mandolin so I have no honest idea. It was made in Paracho, where most of the stringed instruments here are.

Anyways, I know its not a very nice mandolin, and its pretty different from what most people play here, but it has sufficed enough for me to learn some basic reels, hornpipes, and bluegrass songs. I am hoping to buy a Kentucky or other upgrade next time I am in the states!

Thanks to everyone on this forum for being so kind and polite. It never ceases to amaze me the rude and offensive way people talk in other forums, so Mandolin Cafe has been a pleasant surprise! God bless you all!

Congratulations Ben, that's a cool mandolin! It certainly has a Celtic mando vibe going. Nice.
