La Pompe

Inspired by Ted's newest design from Rigel, I'm looking for insight into how to generate "that sound." Sometimes you see La Pompe described as a kind of "Boom-Chick" feel, but that seems to generic to me. #The gypsy rhythm strikes me as more fluid, and yet somehow with a snap at the same time.

Anyway, I can sometimes pull it off playing tritones on a guitar - but #what's a good way to make it work on the mando?
