It's close to me. Any thoughts on value?

F-4's seem to be running $5-7K depending on condition. Bernunzio has one that he's asking as high as $9.5K for. Tuners should be (and do look like) Handels. Hard to put a value on it from one small pic. If it's nearby, go take a look. From the write-up, sounds like the seller knows some things about instruments, so I wouldn't expect a bargain...

You hit the nail on the head Allen. The guy horse-trades some nice guitars. He said the neck joint has an ugly repair. If I can get free I want to drop by and take a look. I'm a sucker for a blacktop.

That is one nice looking F-4 Spruce!! Since everyone NEEDS at least one oval hole mando and you sold this F-4, what did you keep?

Nice mandolin, Bruce. I love the torch and the Handels. The rest of it ain't too shabby neither.

I didn't need to see that Spruce (laughing). From what little bit I can see of the one near me, I suspect it will not touch the condition of yours (formerly). Thanks for sharing.

Mine had a cracked/repaired neck heel, which knocked it down considerably....

Nice mando, though.....

Absolutely beautiful instrument Bruce. Nice pictures. Thanks for sharing. I am not really knowledgeable about that builder, can you share some information?

Well, it doesn't have "that" dry F4 sound--it has it's own voice...
But I've got an A4 that does, so I'm covered....
Love that sound on tape...

I stopped by to take a gander today. It was not there...sad...
The shop owner took it to have it looked over by George Gruhn.
Spruce I think you parted with a better version than what this
guy has. Apparently the neck is pretty ugly.

This could have been a great find if it were not for the demands
of the owner. Very complicated, but they needed the cash
now! Well so goes finding a great deal...

And if the seller wants to get Gruhn's appraised value for it, the price will be around the higher percentiles of the going price range. On the other hand, Gruhn will at least be honest about the effect of the "ugly" neck repair on the F-4's value.

Seems pretty clear the seller knows he has a potentially valuable mandolin for sale, and will drive a pretty hard bargain. And "needs the cash now," but is taking the time to have it looked over/appraised by Gruhn? Interesting... On the one hand, sounds like a forced sale for immediately-needed funds; on the other, a well-calculated effort to get the going market value.

Well, this seller had quoted me a price of a little under $3K for this mandolin. If it has neck problems I can see why the price was so low ... be that as it may, I still didn't have the coin. We'll see what the seller says after Gruhn is done with the appraisal.
