Looks good! I played a J Bovier at my local music store about a month ago and was amazed at how great it sounded, it had the volume and tone of mandolins costing two or three times as much. Enjoy.

What's the specs on it?

This is the way Jeff Cowherd described the mandolin to me:

The new F5 "S" model is a totally different design than current JBovier
models. It is fine quality F5 that is designed for players that appreciate
precise detail work, beautiful woods, varnish finish, and great voicing...
all rolled into a mandolin that is more "affordable" than other brands
offering similar specs.

At this point it will not replace any of the models, but be the more
expensive "Premium" line.

They are built according to "Lloyd "Loar" plans, with (2) exceptions:

1. An abbreviated fretboard extension (instead of the problematic LONG
traditional version)

2. A slightly wider fretboard where it joins the body (for easier
playability in the high register).

From what I understand this mandolin was made in China unlike the earlier J. Bovier models, which were made in S. Korea. I really don't have enough experience with different mandolins to make a really informed comparison (I bought this one directly from Jeff, sight-unseen), but to me, the mandolin plays very easily & sounds very good. To my ears, it sounds similar to other J. Bovier mandolins that I have heard on You Tube - a nice balance between woody lows & sweet highs - in comparison to, for example, some Eastmans I have listened to, which seem to have more focus on the highs.

I will post some tunes a soon as I figure out how to resuscitate my cam corder!
