640846408564086640876408864089With massive amounts of help from Will and Fred Kimble, I built this A5 in 2004/2005 as a high school senior project. This was at a time when I had just begun playing mandolin. I am so grateful for all of their gracious efforts. These pictures are from 2007 when the mandolin was right at 3 years old. Now it is over 6 years old.

Nice looking instrument. Where are numbers 2-22?

Bill,
I'd like to get started on another one soon. There is a large shop here in Asheville that is renting space, equip, etc for such a project. IDK if it would turn out like this one here w/o the help of Will and Fred. But, I did take good notes during the project, and I have some friends in town who might could help me out with questions. Will let you know.

This was the first mandolin you built? And you built it while you were in high school? Wow...Impressive. It's beautiful!

James Condino in Asheville might be a big help. He's been very generous with his time for me, especially on finishing questions.

Ed,
I had A LOT of help from Will and Fred. There are some pretty serious binding scrapes in the finish (all me) on it that are visible in person. But, thank you so much.

Bill,
I have only met Condino once, about three years ago. But, I have heard that his work is thorough and he is a good friend of one of my band mates, Griff Martin. So, I guess I ought to follow up on that connection, if I get serious about making another.
