I had the day off today for my birthday and took pictures of my 1936 Gibson A-Century in the beautiful Wisconsin autumn leaves!

Anybody else have autumn mandolin photos of their mandolin?

Woodwizard-

Our peak is about a week from now. In Northern Wisconsin they're at the peak now.
Great reds with your Gibson! :)

My wife wasn't really keen on the idea of helping post the picture after I did this to her mum.

From my archives. Finished about this time of year based on the aspen leaves.

Thanks... I planted a row of these red maples several years ago ... one about every 40 ft along the 100 yd long boat ramp/launch by my house. They are starting to get fairly big and are beautiful in the fall for sure. It will be well into Nov. before they start turning red here.

I remember that picture I think Jim. BEAUTIFUL!

The leaves on the trees here look nothing less than breathtaking ... reds, yellows, oranges, browns ... but it's hard to get the mandolin pictured with those colors because you'd have to put the mandolin in the tree! ;)

The trick is to figure out a natural looking shot to incorporate them. Probably right after they fall off but still have most of their color, by laying the mandolin in the leaves like jartop did on the far right of his pictures.

Not sure if this will work ... I decided to try to take fall pictures early last week, after we'd heard the colors weren't going to be very nice this year (the naysayers were wrong, although all the rain and wind we've had recently have brought down a bunch of leaves), so I took the Rogue down to the swamp at the end of the street for fun. The Rogue for two reasons: I thought the black would contrast nicely with whatever brightness the leaves had and because I didn't worry about it down at the swamp. Anyway, here are two pictures. I included the dark one because it looked kinda atmospheric.

Redwood/Koa C# hanging in friends dawn redwood (Metasequoia glyptostroboides), the only deciduous member of the redwood family. There's an interesting story behind the tree. Some recycled redwood lumber was bought 30 years ago at a salvage yard in El Paso Texas. Turns out the boards were originally milled at a sawmill near the Gila national forest in southwest NM from logs brought in off the forest. This fact was brought to the attention of a tree grower in Los Lunas NM.
The nurseryman who sells the seedlings today claims he collected the seeds from a remnant population of dawn redwood way up the middle fork of the Gila river. While all the chinese dawn redwoods evidently have opposite leaves, this variant has alternate leaves.

That is a mandolin I built, and yes I was very nervous about it hanging off my wife like that! I promised the horse some cookies so he would behave. He thinks of me as an ATM (Automated Treat Machine)!
