Was wondering if any of you folks have ever heard of a "Washington" brand mandolin? It is an ancient flat body with two points, one on each side. I can't find any markings on it except for the "Washington" decal on the head stock. It belonged to my Irish Grandmother and I don't know how old it was when she got it. It has some pretty fancy wooden inlays around the sound hole and bindings and has real mother-of-
pearl fret markers. Would be greatful for any history you may have.

Thanks,

Oh, this just begs for some political content, but I aint't going there.

Washington was a brand name used by Slingerland. Slingerland made mostly banjos, but also handled guitars and mandolins. They likely farmed out a lot of stuff, and good luck on finding out who made your mandolin. It is also possible that "Washington" was used by others as well.

Thanks Alan,

You've given me something to go on. I agree with you about finding the maker, I've been searching for quite some time and
haven't come up with much. It appears to have been an inexpensive mandolin for the common man. I'll keep on looking
and will try and post a photo of it to jog some memories out there.
