Ryder electric mandolin

I'm in the market for a 5 string electric and am interested in the Ryder mandolin, but have never seen one. #Anyone know of someone who has one in the LA area? #I've played and enjoyed the Schwab, but would like to compare before I make a final choice. #Any other feedback about either mandolin would also be appreciated. #And if anyone is selling either a Ryder or Schwab, let's talk!

I'm extremely happy with my Ryder EM-44, it's the left-most pictured on at http://www.sjryder.com/EM-44.htm. I do get some noise from the split coil pu's, even when they're used as humbuckers, but it's super playable, and it's got such a huge tonal range (two splitable double coils,) I couldn't have asked for more.

I've also got a Ryder EM-44 which I like a lot. Steve will customize as much as you want (and want to pay the upcharges for). I've got clear finish over ash, tortoise pickguard, two single coils, rosewood board and large frets. There's a thread with a photo on this section of Cafe, but it's fallen off the edge of the world so you'll have to search.

I like the Ryder a whole bunch - easy to play, gets a wide range of tones. There are some samples on my MP3 page, e.g. Whiskey and Cold Frosty...

What do you mean by 'some noise' Christian? is their a way to fix it?

By some noise, I mean 60hz hum, of the type that one usually selects humbuckers to avoid http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif I have taken it in to have the wiring assessed for ways to address that, and nobody's been able to figure anything out. Since that response about a year ago, I've had the selector replaced, and a setup done to even the action a bit. So, after $80 worth of work, I don't think I'll be doing anything but making music with it for a long time. Still very happy with it...
