I'm getting ready to take my girlfriend away for a romantic valentimes weekend and I ask do you mind if I bring my Rigel with us. Do you think I need help.

If she finds your playing romantic, then you have no problem. If she is like my wife, who is jealous when I pay attention to my mandolin instead of her (and who pretty much hates the sounds of the thing -- in my hands at least), you're in a heap of trouble!

Get up early Saturday morning, fix a cup-o-joe, grab the mando ... and write her a song.

That might work ...

sorry for the double post I can't hit the mouse right no wonder I can't play the mandolin.

I can't be away from my mandolin for a day. If it were me, I'd have to bring it, or I'd likely be dead by the end of the weekend. I think it's physically addictive and should probably go to rehab. I'd go tonight, but I'm going to a jam...

Take the Rigel.
Just don't beg her to cry out "Blueburst!" in the peak of passion like I did...
That'll leave you sleeping on the couch for a month...

Yes, you need help. If you have your Rigel, why would you even want to take a girlfriend along? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

take the mandolin!!!!!
if you can't take it with you and play it for her, how romantic can the weekend possibly be?

You don't need help. Mandohack does.

Ofcourse, it's a good thing I'm a virgin. I'd have a hard time NOT calling out an instrument's name in bed. (I have to edit this post so I can add this: I mean MUSICAL instrument.)

Only mistake I see there is that you asked if you could bring your Rigel along. #You should just bring it. She might say no. #Then you'd have to make a choice. #
Take the advice of an old married man, never ask if you can do anything.

What mistake? I'm bringing the 'bird, a pignose, and a crapload of pedals.

Feb-13-2004, 8:05am
I'm leaving the wife home and taking the mandolin. I figure if I leave on the 13th and don't return until the 16th, I'm off the hook for the Hallmark Holiday.

bring your mando. Just make sure you are more romantic with your girlfriend than you are with your Rigel.

Better yet, take her to some mando shops over the weekend http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif that will really put her in the mood...

videojohn, i'm in the same situation but worked it all out. #i was torn between going to ashland on saturday to see doyle lawson and quicksilver or going on out annual sweethearts weekend pilgrimage at a state park. #well, we're going to the sweethearts dance BUT i recruited a friend/couple to go who plays guitar. #my mando is packed in my truck right now! #we'll jam some tonight and tomorrow and still do the dinner/dance/romance thing. #At least the DJ usually plays a few BG songs.

i say take the rigel.

happy valentine's day to all!

I'm married to a piano player who will not play anything but a full size kurzweil or a grand piano. We do not travel much because of this. At least I play small acoustic instruments (mando and fiddle).

Ditto to the "majority" opinion(s) here! - I have come "complete circle".. ; I used to believe there were great differences of outlook, opinions, priorities.., etc, betwix the sexes. THEN I got "educated"(i.e. college, post-grad.., etc.)and I supposedly "learned "it's goota be an equal-thing.., we're all basically alike.., blah.., blah.. - in my declining years I have returned to my original - and God-given natural intelligence and "instinct(s).. Take the mando, ASK her if SHE would like a Valentine "treat"(of YOUR choosing!)!! If she say's "no mando"... THEN Buy her a bunch or roses and a nice card THEN take off for the weekend with your mando, your music, and perhaps some "libation(s) to help with "inspiration and "motivation". Just my .02.., from personal(too many years!) of experience. "You don't get old and quit music..., you QUIT MUSIC and get old".(source: EL MOOSO). No flames pls ladies.., I'm really a wonderful and VERY sensitive person. hee.. hee.. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif

Does the Rigel mind that you are bringing your girlfriend? They are a jealous breed.
Sometimes my Rigel goes strapless in the evening- truly a fetching sight...

Yea, you need help, but we all do. If my wife goes to the restroom, I am getting my Mandolin out, even if just for 24 seconds. What are we to do? I ask you, what are we to do? Take it with you, or not to take it with you. That is the question. Shakesphere has nothing on us

Moose
Feb-13-2004, 12:31pm

I don't see the problem.... I took my mandolin on our honeymoon, and we're still married.

Here's another question of similar lines... I'm accompanying my wife to her Grandmother's funeral this weekend, and am therefore missing Midwinter BG Fest here in CO (which we had planned on for a few months). Would it be wrong to bring my mando to pick a few with my brother-in-law when I see him at teh funeral? Obviously we wouldn't pick AT the funeral. My wife says it depends on how much "stuff" we end up having to take with us...

Hey mad-dawg -- here(Univ. of Dela.) we call that a "Major Life Event" - AND, be sure to inform the Human Resources Office so they can keep track of your life!!(OPS!!##)... Feb-16-2004, 1:41am
Mandorose: It's sad that I don't know what was mispelled ain't it? I'm gonna guess "retreat." I digress, look at the bright side, atleast you said gentelman not geniti...nevermind.

Now to actually respond to the THREAD: I don't know. But, for those of you not already with someone: Try (though you can't help it if it doesn't work this way) to date musicians. I'd be disappointed if a man DIDN'T bring his musical instrument personally. (Not that I date enough to worry about it *L*)
