Got my first taste of OCMS on Prairie Home Companion this past weekend. Nearly knocked my socks off! What do y'all think of them? They sure ain't Monroe-esqe, but they sure are fun! Sort of like Jim Kweskin and the Jug Band meets Ralph Stanley!

They are way cool. Great live show as well!

New album, produced by David Rawlings of Gillian Welch fame, well worth the hard-earned ducats.

Actually, I'd say they are sort of Monroe-esque in that they seem quite serious about putting on a good show and really kicking it out for the audience. #One song after the other, not a lot of messing around, and they play hard!

Saw them at Pagosa Springs a few weeks back. #They stole the show, but for Gillian and David.

OCMS is *by far* my favorite group right now. #I've listened to their CDs literally hundreds of times since I first saw them a couple years ago, just can't get enough. #If anybody here hasn't checked them out, you really need to. #

OCMS appeared here in northern Indiana about a month ago. I bought tickets because I wanted to see Gillian Welch, having no idea who OCMS was and what they were all about. HOLY SMOKES....I have NEVER seen an audience so electrified by a performance. Unbelievable energy, talent, charm, etc, etc. When Gillian and David and OCMS came back and played together at the end of the show, I thought the house was going to come down. FIND WHERE THEY'RE PLAYING AND SEE THEM LIVE!

I love OCMS. I read in an interview somewhere that they got discovered when they were busking on the street outside of a drug store. As they were getting ready to pack up for the night, some lady stopped and asked them if they would play for a few more minutes while she went home to get her grandfather who she though would love to hear them. They said "Sure, why not?" and it turned out that her grandfather was Doc Watson. A short time later they were getting standing ovations while playing between sets at the Grand Ol' Opry. How's that for good luck? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I just bought their latest "O.C.M.S.".

What other recordings are available?

I'm crazy about this band, what a good sound!

Check out their website at http://www.crowmedicine.com

They have their other CDs listed there, and a few MP3s you can download. I have their CD called Eutaw an there was one before it called Greetings from Wawa but I think it's unavailable now. I've played their CDs literally hundreds of times and never get sick of them. They just need to add a mandolin player to the lineup! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

I forgot to mention, there's another old-timey group some of you may like if you enjoy Old Crow. It's not really a group, just two guys, but I saw them recently and they play with a lot of energy. They are called Uncle Cuckleburr's Champion Possum Carvers and their website is http://www.possumcarvers.com

Not as good as Old Crow to me but interesting music.
