Hi Francesco and welcome to the Mandolin Cafe. That's a nice instrument with a good clear "celtic" sound and well played too.

Cheers from Richard in Scotland

Funny idea with the heart in the headstock - reminds me of the old German custom to have a heart cut out of the doors of outdoor toilets ;)

yes is my too creative talent , push me to do this risky choices...:whistling:
I try to stop but it's stronger than me...without this particular (the heart on the heads or the inlays or the unusual rosette ecc.) i don't feel my the instrument...
now i've got a classical guitar under construction,
for save time i used a prefabbricated rosette and now every time i saw that i would like to remove..but the instrument is now assembly and it is impossible to remove without risk...i know this is only a mental problem but i really love and trust in this work...:(
I dont say in the first post that the mandolin is built based on the book write by Graham mcDonald "the mandolin progect".
i saw that Graham is registered on this site and i take advantage to congratulates to him for the great book, thank you Mr Graham, i am a student of the luthier school of Milano but the day you went to visit the school, i had a problem and i can't saw you.
i would like to know what do you think about my interpretation of your progect.
best regards
Francesco De Gregorio

Nice work. Nice tone and good looks, and I epsecially love the neck stripe and matching back inlay -- and the asymetrical neck heel was a nice touch.

Hello Francesco,

I thought the design looked familiar. It looks and sounds delightful. Well done and please be as creative with the ideas in the book as you wish. I am glad it was useful to you. Please send my regards to Lorenzo and the rest of the staff who were very kind and generous with their time as well as Mattia whose translating made it all possible.

cheers

Great instrument!

My only suggestion is to indulge yourself and upgrade the hardware. This mandolin deserves it! :)

I've seen a few very old banjos that had a moon and stars motiff inlayed on the headstock. You would find a cutout moon on the door of a mens outhouse and a star on the womens. LOL! I guess you could say that was the first banjo joke!

You see hearts and hummingbirds as sound holes on lap dulcimers as well.
