only problem: i don't know any italian songs.

can anyone help me with advice on italian songs that sound good with mandolin accompaniment? any classics i should learn?

thanks in advance.

O Solo Mio, and Santa Lucia, my great grandfather sang these all the time I'm told. He tried to teach my dad but it didn't stick. Should also be easy for you to pick up quick.

Not that I'm aware, but the arrangements are so straightforward, I suspect they didn't think a CD would sell.

One of my favorites of these tunes is "Come Back to Sorrento." The shifting from major to minor is full of sappy nostalgia. Milk those firmatas for all you can squeeze from them and you'll be bringing tears to their eyes.

Thanks Eugene, unfortunately I've never heard most of the songs in the book. John

Tom:
Find out what songs he wants to sing (and the key he wants to sing them in). Most likely they will be some of the old standards. Sorrento; Funiculi, Funicula; O Solo Mio; Santa Lucia, etc. which are availabe in Terry Pender's book.

or....You can find versions of these songs in ABC format at this site (http://trillian.mit.edu/~jc/cgi/abc/findtune?P=solo+mio&F2=find+%28wide%29&L=1000).
