I had the great pleasure of hearing Mike and Caterina perform many of these songs at last year's Mandolin Symposium. My wife pre-ordered the CD, can't wait to get it!

This CD is a collection of marvels from around the world and across several centuries. Every one of these pieces is impeccably presented, but words fail there as in general to convey the true beauty of the performances - these two masters extract depth and nuance of expression from phrase after phrase. Every movement of every piece, old to new, feels as fresh and authentic as the day it was conceived - and with two Marshall originals, two Marshall counterpoint parts complimenting Bach solo violin pieces, and a contemporary Venezuelan suite (who else would bring us such a gem?), there is plenty of new here. Caterina Lichtenberg, in addition to being a superb classical musician, is obviously bursting with her own innovative artistic personality, which includes a quick and delightful sense of humor. Harnessing a unity of purpose to controlled fire and pure joy in delivery, Marshall and Lichtenberg sound about as electric as acoustic can get.

This debut presents its subjects clearly. Rather than blurring the lines between genres, it allows us to hear and feel the connectedness of all these works. Eclectic excellence in selection; gorgeous playing; a truly amazing convergence of tone and timing; and top-notch production values - all in all, a blockbuster contribution for mandolin and music lovers.
