View Full Version : Norwegian Wood Mandola
There's a "$100 Acoustic Challenge" over on MIMF, and here's a mandola I made for that. All the woods are local (Norwegian), and the cost of the instrument is just under $100. I started Jan. 1st, and I got done just in time, as the instruments have to be done by March 15th. Some of you have seen my progress shots here and on other forums, well here are the pictures of the finished product

Beautiful! Hey, I think we jammed for 10 minutes in Mandolin Bros in 2005. Unless there was another Norwegian luthier in Staten Island that June. Isn't it good, Norwegian Wood.
I'll give you TWO hundred dollars for it! Double your money!

That's one of the most lovely instruments I have clapped eyes on.
Your attention to detail is magnificent
Sweet! Go Scandinavians! :)
Thanks, everyone!
I think it sounds fine, well the varnish is barely dry, so I its still developing I guess. It is being picked up tonight, but the customer has promised to make a soundclip, so I'll post that when I get it.

Hey, small world! I remember that, I think you bought a Phoenix, correct? I was on my way to the ASIA symposium in MD, and took the opportunity to spend a couple of days in NYC.

Yep, that's my Phoenix- still have it, and love. I'd be happy to get to Trondheim some day to pick some more!
Well, come on over, you are invited! I have the perfect porch for just that (well, for a month or two each year, anyways! ;))

Arnt, I just checked out this thread so I'm just now seeing the 'dola. I like that one a lot! Particularly, I like the sapwood/heartwood theme that goes from the tailpiece to the peghead. Nice body and peghead shapes too. Good job!

Really nice to see a mandolin with a little character. Very well done and a breath of fresh air.
