His website hennismandolins.com says that Ricky Woods of the Wood Brothers at Dollywood endorses them and that Travers Chandler of Dan Paisley group endorses them. Anyone know these guys and can comment?

Really good prices for a US handmade piece. Is there a catch to this?

Am I missing something?

That thing looks like it was built with a stone-age chisel...brother!

The standard comment around here for instruments with, um, "primitive" fit and finish:

It's folk art!

It looks better than anything I could build but, I still wouldn't buy it.

“my Hennis mandolin has one of the best sounds of mandolins I’ve played” Travers Chandler
That's some high praise ;)

The one in Gary's shop was made by someone else named Hennis or else it was one of his very earliest ones. From what I can tell from his web site, none of his mandolins look anywhere as rough as that one.
