I am considering a long-term work assignment in the Washington, DC area. I am interested in finding out:

Who are the major OT players/bands in the area?

What local OT jams and events are there in the area?

What are the local OT-related organizations?

Who teaches, or might agree to teach, OT mando in the area?

Thanks in advance for any information.

Try here:
http://www.caboma.org/

I don't think the old-time scene in DC is as big as the bluegrass scene, but I think you'll find the people if you look hard enough. #Try the DC Bluegrass Union site for resources too in particular the events calendar:
http://dcbu.org/

And Virigina and West Virginia ain't far and there's lots of old-time music there....

Mando Johnny,

If you are going to be in the D.C. area for any length of time, you will want to join the Folk Society of Greater Washington - http://www.fsgw.org. This will let you know of all the musical activities in the area for each month. Someone already pointed out CABOMA. If you are interested in a mandolin teacher, you can find none finer than Tom Espinola. He teachers through the House of Musical Traditions in Takoma Park, MD. You can do a search and find their web site and contact them that way. There are opportunities to play around here, so if you are coming let us know.

Jeff and Charlie:

Thanks! I will follow-up with all those contacts if and when I get assigned to DC.

Any other input from the board would be appreciated also.

John
