Steve Gilchrist on CD

Every knows Steve Gilchrist's reputation as a builder of the very finest mandolins, but he is less well known as a player. Australia's best bluegrass and Texas style fiddler Donal Baylor has released his first solo CD and has Steve playing mandolin on eight tracks. Several other tracks feature young Australian mandolin player Lachlan Davidson as well. There are three preview tracks available on Donal's website (http://www.donalbaylor.com), all with Steve on mandolin.

Another lutherie connection is that Donal is the fiddler player for Bluegrass Parkway (http://www.bluegrassparkway.com/index.php), the band led by Paul & Maria Duff, at least when they are in the same part of the country.

I was flattered when Donal asked me to sing a couple of songs on this CD.

For those interested, Steve G. played one of his new Model 1 mandolins for this recording. Steve is very humble when it comes to his playing but to be honest I'd say he's one of the best mandolinists I've been lucky enough to play with.

That´s what I figured by the sound of the mandolin. It has a strong and good sound.
