Got to see Blue Highway and the new Adam Steffey band last night at the Bijou Theatre in Knoxville, TN. Great picking!
The headliner was a little known guitar picker named Tommy Emmanuel. ;)
He was of course fantastic. Had some great pickers with him.

Enjoy.

It really is about the best $10 I spend every month. We have these the last Wed. of every month. Thanks WDVX (http://www.wdvx.com/)

10 bucks to see that level of talent! Count your lucky stars for sure!

Believe me, I am very grateful! It's actually $15 now, I forgot they raised the price. My friend usually gets the tickets and I pick up dinner before the show.
I know it's not the same, but you can listen to the show every month at the link in my last post. And really anytime is a good time to listen to WDVX. Excellent radio. Listener funded. They have a few underwriters too, but it's pretty much all music, all the time.

oh yeah WDVX is great. I listen to them online now and again. I'm jealous, now...
But we get to see Dancing on the Air with Jay Ungar and Molly Mason... Not as much mandolin content... But every now and then Jay plays his old Gibson oval...
It's amazing that these caliber of bands are only charging $10 a head. I saw the Grascals the other night for $10...unbelievable! What a great live act and for that kind of money you would think the place would be standing room only. 60 people at the most. California certainly doesn't seem to be in the bluegrass camp for these bands. No wonder I can't find anyone to play this genre of music....

Adam Steffey and Shawn Lane? That is mando heaven. Blue Highway is still probably my favorite band.
Not sure if I'd categorize Tommy Emmanuel as "little known", though. He has a worldwide following of rabid fans that think he's the best guitar player on the planet, and it's hard to argue with them!

That's why I included the "wink" after the statement. Of course I know he is known worldwide and I have been following his career for several years. He was the headliner at this show and did he give a show. I consider him the best guitarist in the world because he can play so many styles and can really entertain with just a guitar. He can play percussion with it and does so often.
He spent most of last night swapping jazz licks with Frank Vignola (whom I had never heard but will never forget.)
It was a great night and to meet him afterward at the Hilton was the icing on the cake. Very gracious fellow.

I couldn't believe the price! Sent for tickets two weeks ago and I am glad I did. It was a complete sellout. I would have expected to pay that much or more for one act but actually go 4 acts although they were somewhat abbreviated. Each group performed for approximately 30 minutes and then there was a big jam session at the end.
I did get to talk to Adam Steffey whom I've know for years. Also talked to John Bowman who is playing fiddle and singing tenor with Adam's new group. Talked also to Tim Stafford whom I've also known for years. Adam and Tim are from here in East Tennessee.

Yoou won't be disappointed Roger. I have seen him live twice and have left shaking my head both times. The guitar just seems to become an extension of him. He has an incredible imagination and uses it to great advantage in entertaining an audience.

Ahhh, sorry. Missed the wink!
I saw some pics from the show and it looked like Adam was playing a Northfield mandolin. Whats up with that?
