Is GHS the only manufacturer of silk and steel mandolin strings?

AFIK, loop end mandolin, yes.. the material used for the winding, silvered copper wire,

It's common to classical guitar strings, they are wound around a non metallic core in that case..

La Bella? D'Addario makes a silk and bronze, not hugely different. The so-called "silk" is a layer of nylon floss wrapped around the core under the wrap to dampen (some would say deaden) the string's response.

The core is always steel.
