I have an extensive violin background as well as piano, but totally new to picking. I'm also in an area where I probably won't find many mandolin players, but who knows (Cleveland, Ohio). If you know of someone then please connect us by pm or otherwise.
What instructional books/dvd's would you recommend for me with my background in mind?
Thanks
Alex

Hi and welcome,
What sort of music do you want to play?

Great question. Bluegrass and some of the more contemporary country stuff. Hope that makes sense.

Have fun with the mandolin! The board here is a great resource although sometimes intimidating since a lot of the members are *really* into mandolins, have fantastic instruments, and can really play. As a violin player, I think you'll pick up mando very quickly. Good luck.

Here's (http://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/search.php?searchid=2097388) a search on "Cleveland" in the Regional Jams, Places To Meet Other Pickers forum; some of the threads listed might give you suggestions to find other mandolinists or places to jam.
