I'm having trouble digging up any info on Japanese made Kentucky mandolas. Anything the board could add here or steer me to would be most appreciated....models, years, etc.

Did a Google search and couldn't find squat on Kentucky mandolas. Don't recall ever seeing one. Were they really "rare birds"?

Models and specs in this thread (http://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17259&highlight=dawg), along with pictures of the Dawg model.

More Dawggy talk and link to factory picture in this thread (http://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10132&highlight=kentucky+catalog).

The May 1988 Saga catalog lists one Kentucky mandola, model KH-600.

This is some good material here! But it seems like I hope there's more to come. Were all the mandolas made in Japan, or were some made in Korea and China also?

You might want to PM/email some of the posters in the thread I linked to above - there were some serious Kentucky scholars there, but I'm not sure how often some of them visit the Cafe nowadays.

Maybe an email to Saga could answer your question as well.

While you're at it, could you find out how many Dawg A mandocellos were made? There's a picture of one in the factory tour link posted above.

Researching these threads has brought out some interesting things. For example, it seems the folks at Saga haven't been able to help with the Japanese models. And Charles Johnson posted that only two mandocellos were made, both going to David Grisman.

I'm grateful and hoping for more! Thanks.....dan
