6 hour mando

I diddn't think it was possible either, but you can actually make a mando out of cardboard and duct tape...alot of duct tape. strangely enough it works and it sounds good..sort of.. okay it has the tone of the cardboard box it's made of. Okay it has no tone but man does it look cool. So here it is, a mando made of cardboard....

See Music Maker's Kits (http://www.musikit.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=MK&Category_Code=Cardboard) for a whole slew of cardboard instruments. They even have sound files available. The provided sound file for the banjo/mandolin sounds amazingly good for cardboard.
Music Makers primarily sells kits made with laminated wood tops.

yes Curious is right, i got the idea off music makers kits. I wasn't sure how it would sound, but apart from being quiet it's pretty nice. and yes it is fretless,( i did only have 6 hours.) It was fairly difficult to play it atfirst but i got the hang of it...

From 20 feet away with my glasses off it looks like a Gibson, though the scroll is a tad more Brunkish than Gibsonian in its turn.

Reminds me of Simon Nicol's cornflakes guitar (custom-made by Rob Armstrong). #That was his main electrical guitar for several years in the 1980s and always good fun! #I have a video of a two-hour Richard Thompson band show from 1983 with Simon on the Cornflakes guitar throughout.

Ya know, the makers of "Duck Tape ®" pay a pretty good sum for kids who make up Prom wear outa duct tape. Maybe they have a 'make it with duct.... I mean Duck Tape' contest. It's worth a shot! There might be a magazine ad in it for you! I believe the mfr is called Manco.

I knew this guy in Winnipeg ,Jim McCourt,did something truely bizare. He ,at one time had played drums semi pro, and in his 15 years playing,had gone through 4 or 5 kits. He hit hard times and sold everything, allmost . What he did keep was 15 years worth of paraphinallia(?)in 3 boxes. He built (there were no pics taken) a 4 peice drum #kit out of structual corrogated cardboard and duct-tape! #He told me it took 4- 8 hour days ,and a few trips to hardware store for nuts and bolts. The heads also were made from cardboard that had to be replaced after ,like, every 30 hours playing. He (lucky guy) had a bass drum pedal allready. So , bass drum,2 toms,snare(with chain thingeee underneath) and I'll tell you, that kit held it's own for two years (never moved from his basement) .Used during band practices too! It was even loud enough ! Boy did I laugh. BUT JUST untill he played it. Then I shutup pretty quick....Kerry...You gotta respect the guy. Life delt him lemons,and he made lemonaid!
