I have an old round back mando and it has very light strings on it.I've read on this board in the past that you shouldn't use standard mando strings because the tension is too much for this type of mando.Someone mentioned "callous" <sp> brand strings.I can't find anything on these.
I searched the archives(a little) and couldn't find anything there either.
Any suggestions?

You are looking for Calace (pronounced Ca-La-Chee) strings made by Dogal. The only importer in the US is Classic Bows in San Diego. Email Greg at classicbows@cox.net. (classicbows@cox.net) Or call toll free 1-888-402-5277. You prob want the lightest of their strings which is 92b.

If you don't want to spend quite that much for a set go with GHS Ultralight A240. juststrings.com (http://www.juststrings.com/ghsmandolin.html) has them for $5.38 per set. I always try to have a few sets around for my bowlbacks.

BTW if you want further info on bowlbacks check the classical section of this board.
