I have a MK Firefly that has a scooped fingerboard extension. This is my second mandolin, and I'm pretty happy with it, but one of the features was the scooped fingerboard extension. Whassup with that? I realize the scooped part makes for less pick noise, but why the extension in the first part?

the extension is a deluxe F5 feature,[like tailfins?] but players rarely fret the frets #25+ and #hate clicking noises of picking into the extension.
sam bush sawed his off, others remove the frets and thin it down for clearance. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif
