Nov-09-2009, 10:23am
Have you seen before this type of mandolin in Grun store ?
I had now a new model mandolin : "Absynthe".
But, this time, is not blue but a more classical color.
This mandolin had build for me by Hervé Coufleau, a very good builder in France and a very good Friend.
A very lou noise like .... the Dailey from Mister Steffey (respect ...)
I hope thats you enjoy to see it
best regards eveybody (I don't speak very good, sorry)

Very interesting. I really like Hervé's design work. I particularly like the sound holes and headstock carving.

Thanks for sharing and Welcome to the Café.

Hmm, I imagine this instrument tipping hats with Django... has that look about it.

Bonjour eltof! Glad to see you here on the Cafe. That is a fantastic mandolin you have there! (And Tof is a fantastic player, folks.) You got it just this week? I hope you'll post a recording when you can. Amitiés,

Very Nice Eltofdelparis!
I Like the touch given to the end of the fretboard. Just enough carved as a relief to set it off. Very cool touch.
Overall a beautiful instrument.

Hi Eltof , nice to see you post here , this mando is a good sounding one and in good hands ;)

Eltof, no thread is complete without soundclips and or video. I´ve seen you on some french videos. You proved, that you can pull tone for sure. I´d therefore appreciate some music in this thread.

I´ve played a traditional looking Coufleau F-5 style mandolin at the Laroche-sur-Foron festival 2007. It was green (barely completed). It sounded extremely nice while it was priced very competitively with regards to much higher priced mandolins. Hervé Coufleau ought to be on a watchlist if you are looking to buy a great instrument at a competitive price. (This though does not apply to the Absynthe model. This highroller mando sports some design features and materials that raises the price considerably). I hear that he is building good guitars also.

Hervé is definitely a master builder ! I've played many guitars and mandolins Made In Clessé (the village where he lives) and I've been so enthusiast that I asked him to build me an octave mandolin which is absolutely terrific ! I've been playing a Monteleone Grand Artist mandolin made for me by John in 1982 that I will keep 'til the end but this young builder from France is probably the Monteleone of the future !

That's what I like, a guy with style. I'll be looking forward to more in the future. Very nice.

Distinctively French in appearance, perhaps a bit of Art Nouveau in the headstock. Beautiful mandolin! Congratulations and enjoy!

Still no soundclips... sad.

I'd like to hear from more people that have played these instruments or own them. https://youtu.be/jDzLYQJoG48

Contemporary styling with class! If it sounds and plays as good as it looks, you should be one happy picker. Congratulations on your new "baby".

Michael Reichenbach is the only person I know who plays one (aside from the old posting above). There is nothing in the database so I assume that the maker is no longer building.

Just noticed this. It looks like the Coufleau of Christophe (the OP) is now available. NFI, of course.

I played one or two some years back, but have heard nothing recent about the builder.
