Any recommendations for a bluegrass christmas album? I looked at Amazon and really could not tell what would be good or not.
I have to be honest and admit that I enjoy the vocals of current bluegrass groups more than I do older groups. Not bashing, they got us where we are today, but I think especially for a Christmas album I would like something more current. I am not opposed to a various artist recording either.
The only bluegrass holiday album I have is It's Christmas Time by Al and Aleta Murphy, featuring former Bluegrass Boy Bob Black on banjo. It's on a local label, so you can PM me if you're interested in finding it for sale. I think it's a fantastic album.

The Isaacs , (who should have been vocal group of the year, every year) have "I Feel The Christmas Spirit" which is great. Emmylou Harris "Light At The Stable" is great...The Dawg has a Christmas album, originally an LP from the seventies, but recently reissued in CD, which features great versions, as only he can do them.

My dobro player keeps telling me how great Jerry Douglas's new Christmas cd is.... I think it's called "Jerry Christmas". If you like current sounding bluegrass, Rhonda Vincent has a Christmas CD

For current bluegrass Christmas albums - tunes and vocals - I imagine plenty will chime in here with first-rate suggestions.
For a mandolin-oriented Christmas album a bit off the radar, find the Nashville Mandolin Ensemble (led by Butch Baldassari) 'Gifts' recording. Very nice, eclectic mix of familiar and not-so tunes.

There is also the An Americana Christmas (http://www.cduniverse.com/search/xx/music/pid/7505126/a/An+Americana+Christmas.htm) with Norman & Nancy Blake, Vassar Clements, Roy Huskey Jr., James Bryan & Ronnie McCoury
(But this is an all instrumental album)
A Skaggs Family Christmas is pretty good...pretty standard fare, though.
