The one that got away but only for a while?

Anyone with stories of seller's remorse or other simliar malady which worked out by retrieving the instrument? I only have a story of a BG-440 that got lost in the aftermath of the borrower's death in a traffic incident. I'd like to get it back, but only because it was my first mandolin purchase. Maybe some of you have chase stories with happy endings.

I -did- try some searching in the archives but found nothing. Maybe I used the wrong words.
