View Full Version : Chop Chords buzzing

I have been working on my chop chord technique (only been playing about 2 months). When chopping I often hear a fret buzz (particularly on the G and D strings). I don't hear any buzzing when I hold the chord and let it ring and I don't hear it on individual notes. Because of this I'm assuming that my it's my technique that is off and not the mandolin setup. Any thoughts or advice?

It could be that if you're lifting your fingers up (damping the chord), when playing on the off-beat,
you're not lifting them up quick enough & getting some residual vibration against the fret.Try playing slowly, making sure that your fingers lift off cleanly & see if that helps,
Ivan

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately the tailpiece just broke so I will need to get it fixed before I can resume with my practice.

Thanks for the advice Ivan. After slowing down for a while I'm now starting to get the right sound at full speed. No more buzzing.

Now about doublestops....
