Just been playing the last Shooglenifty incessantly recently enjoying the fantastic playing of Luke Plumb.Any other suggestions for similar things ie groove based but still recognisably celtic?

No mandolin, but try Martyn Bennett's and Martin Low's Hardland. It is very groove based, and features some very good fiddle and pipe playing by Bennett.

Fused by Mike McGoldrick is a great album, which mixes irish tunes with drum and bass in a very stylish way....

If you're not looking specifically for mandolin, try Kila or some of the old Moving Hearts stuff (e.g., "The Storm") that really started it all.
