On the PBS station there is a series of short astromomy vignettes entitled Star Hustler. During the opening and closing credits a beautiful piece is played, albeit on a synthesizer. (I'm sure it was written by Debusey, although I could be wrong.) I have heard this piece performed on a piano and I was mesmerized by it! Therefore, I would like find sheet music for it. (Or preferably mandolin tabulature.) So, does anybody recognise this composition, and who wrote it, and can the Mandolin Cafe experts please whip up tabulature for it? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

I remeber some few-minute PBS regular bit on astronomy in the distant past, but I didn't think "Star Hustler" was its name: "Gazer," "Watcher," "Neck Strainer"...anything but "Hustler." I could be wrong. Whatever the case, the bit I'm remembering had a nasal-voiced, mustachioed host and used a synthesized version of Debussy's Arabesque no. 1 as its theme. You will let us know when you finish your arrangement for mandolin and mandoloncello, eh?

" ... Debussy's Arabesque no. 1 as its theme. "

A wonderfull theme indeed! ( ... but synthesized?!? )

That's one I never could conquer as a pianist*; the part (on piano) entails playing eight note arrpeggios with the left hand, while negotiating beautiful decending sets of triplets with the right hand.

* ... at least I think this is same piece of music.

Yeah... I can picture that guy from some 15 or more years ago, when I used to watch local channels, and they featured that bit on one of them... Jack Horkheimer, or something like that... and I can hear that music in my head. Actually, that piece was from an older synthesizer album of all Debussy music that I once had, even longer ago. Very nice for getting... er, experiencing altered states of, um, something-or-another. I forget the name of the player, but think he was Japanese (?). It'll come to me.

Here (http://www.devine-hall.com/pages/backgroundmusic.html) is a midi piano version of the Debussy. Is that the one?

If so, you can get a digital version for piano for $5 here (http://www.musicnotes.com/searchresults.asp).

Thankyou, everyone. So, I was right. It was Debussy. And yes the show was named Star Hustler, because my brother recieved a set of these same tapes featuring the chubby, whiney voiced astronomer Jack Hornrucker (or something like that). I will let you know when and if I can arrange Arabesque no.1 for mandolin tabulature. I guess I'll have to sort through my sister-in-law's piano stool for a copy. Heck, I may as well dig up Claire au Lune, while I'm at it. (Gotta do everything myself... grumble...grumble.. )
