Motivational posters

How about some mandolin-related motivational posters? I've seeen these on just about all the boards I frequent except for this one, and they're something of a guilty pleasure of mine. Plenty of free software out there for quick ways of making them, too.

I'll start it off.

Mike, Monroe did have one in his band, early on. I believe it was played by Sally Ann Forrester, the wife of the fiddle player Howdy Forrester. Go back and listen to the original recording of The Rocky Road Blues. You know the one that had the beat that Bill Haley used on Rock Around the Clock. You will definetly find the Accordian. As for me, I am no big fan of it. It just don't fit the traditional mold of Lester, Earl, Bill, Chubby and Cedric Rainwater. That is what I like, Althought I am not the Bluegrass Police. I like what I like. FOR ME, the accordian at no part of nothing, except Polka and Tex Mex. YOMV. I appreciate the players talent, but I like the traditional stuff. It just aint for me!

No, I think it was more than Monroe wanted a girl singer during the war years, and/or was doing a favour for Howdy when he got drafted. Keep an eye on his wife and bring some money in. According to "Can't you hear me calling?" Monroe was quite protective of women married to his band members. He fished in other waters... Body and Soul!

I know, I know and you´re right. I just wanted to rub Mike Edgerton a little bit. I also wanted to make fun of the paradigma that women can´t sing/play bluegrass.

I suspect that my taste is affected by the dearth of great or even good accordion players to which I have been exposed.

I sometimes wonder, if Monroe had kept the accordion on, would it have become so standard that we would now see a BG band as incomplete without one? Would the model of accordion in the band become iconic, and so sought after as to raise accordion prices into the hundred of thousands of dollars?


I was recently surprized to see how popular and cool accordion is among a group of Mexican youngsters I recently met. They were standing around playing "air accordion"!

It's actually the inside of a righty. The issue, as it were, is in the center of the board... A hole straight through.

It's also a bit of fakery, as I put it there on purpose to prevent myself from chickening out on a new sound hole I want to try. The picture was just meant to be part of the general documentation, but when I saw it it just screamed "MISTAKE!" to me.

Now you have me thinking about adding a lefty to the current batch. Oh dear.

That's the Carolina Chocolate Drops (http://www.carolinachocolatedrops.com/). They are awesome. Not bluegrass but highly recommended. They're probably the best known touring African American Stringbands keeping the tradition of that music alive. No mandolin, great guitar, banjo, fiddle and jug work though.
