This is my dads mandolin, it was passed down to him in the family. We have no idea what kind it is (except that it says Bruno on it). Maybe someone could help with that??

Bruno is the brand of Mandolin. Made in New York by Bruno & Sons between the 1890's - 1920's.

Bruno is the brand name for an older American made company. Mugwumps (http://www.mugwumps.com/AmerInstMkr.html) has some information. There are several folks, Mr. Garber comes to mind, who can provide more details. This is not the Sacha Baron Cohen signature model.

Edit: I'll add that whould you ever restring it (and I think bowls have cool voices and are fun to play) use ultra light strings like the GHS lights (http://www.juststrings.com/ghs-a240.html) or Thomastik Weich (http://www.juststrings.com/toi-154w.html) for example. You have inherited a wonderful family historical piece and a nice mandolin to boot.

Instrument's being discussed in another thread. Bruno didn't build instruments; they were distributors of instruments built for them by others.
