I'm thinking of trying Andy Statman's Jazz/BeBop instructional book. Can anyone give me any feedback before I plop down the coin for this?

The short answer is Andy's book is more theoretical with jazz scales and how to play over jazz changes. Dawg's work is more geared toward his specific tunes, many from the Kaleidoscope record. I just wish Dawg would have included not only the heads, but also his solos, some of which are simply stunning.

Thanks for the input and the link. It looks like I would probably be better off with some general jazz information/theory books.

A great series of books is titled "How to play Bebop". Look for it.
