I got sucked into Andy Manson's incredible web site today (http://www.andymanson.co.uk/photos.html). His work is like it's from another planet. Any one instrument would be the masterpiece of a lifetime, and there are dozens shown on the site.

Particularly nice I think is the inlay work. He just blows my mind. Any other cool pics out there of nice inlay or binding work, particularly rosettes?

Forgive the poor photo quality, but here's mine. Is it cool? I'm too new to know.

Welcome, Jaqueline! Yeah, that is cool. A lot of those old bowlbacks are works of art.

Well here are two of my personal favorites... I love the others presented in this thread too. Brian Dean's Labraid L&H repro with sound hole virzi (Labraid Tone Weaver) and Jack Spira's Cat's Eye.

Lee,
Wow, what an incredible artist. Thanks for the link to Andy's web site. That mermaid guitar is unbelievable! The detail is mind boggling. He must be a very patient man.

Wow, one can only hope for that kind of talent. Brian Dean's is a masterpiece of art and architecture.

Andy Manson produces some fantastic work and if I wasn’t a luthier I’d want one of his! You might like the rosette on a twin-point mandolin that I just finished.

I’ve just revamped my website and there nine more of my rosettes on my “commission” page; take a look if you wish.

I love Andy Manson's work, he's just an incredible artist. Some other great examples above too.

Another luthier whose work I particularly appreciate is Matthew Bascetta, who uses crushed gemstones, coral etc. in his inlays. Here are a couple of pics: the mandolin isn't mine, but the redwood-topped parlour guitar with the turquoise rosette is mine.

Very Mandelbrot!

Hans, Stuart is a very talented young man who like yourself is not afraid to push the envelope. His approach to building is extremely open minded and forward thinking.. I have him building me a 000 12 fret brazilian/ bearclaw sitka guitar at the moment which is dragging him back to a more traditional mindset which he is embracing.. He is someone to keep your eye on... oh yeah he builds banjo's too.. ha ha.

Very talented indeed!
Franken, I'm afraid all my soundhole work is retarded, eh retro...;)

Maybe one of these days I'll re-invent the guitar...
Nah, they should look like Larsons!

I think you should.. your 3 point is a glorius thang.. meanwhile when i get tired of the bling thing i really dig the simplicity of this soundhole.. J. Walker..

it's a shame that mandolin luthiers don't go in for traditional roses - like this mind-numbingly delicate parchment rose made by paul butler - follow the step-by-step process here: http://crab.rutgers.edu/~pbutler/parchment.html
