Many of us, myself included tend to categorize when instruments were popular by the time when models we own or admire were built. I was doing some research on another subject today and this ad from the Lancaster, KY newspaper, The Daily Record popped up. Some things never change.

That reminded me of this gem, from the NY Times, 8/20/1897. Some things have changed. The mandolin is no longer considered the cause of dementia. Not so often, anyway. ;) I think the popular belief is mandolin players are a little nutty to begin with ... :))
