Ahhhhh... back from vacation. Now, let me REST a bit! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

My dear mother-in-law used to play the mandolin up until she was 18; then came one of those nasty little revolutions, coups d'etat, civil wars, etc. that rock oh so many Latin American countries from time to time. The mandolin was lost, stolen, abandoned, sold to buy daily necessities... who remembers now?

She turned 80 this past spring. Sooooooooo...

Welcome back, Victor. You have done a good thing.

Let me add I know what it's like to come back from a vacation and need rest... I spent three and a half weeks in Poland after being away for over two years, and was nearly torn apart by wild relatives. My family are great people, but there are far too many of them to see in that short a space in time, especially for someone used to the peace and quiet of rural Texas.

Ay, ay, ay...

My wife has 32 first cousins, as her father had 8 siblings; her mother comes from the ENORMOUS Redondo clan of southern Spain (as in numerous localities in the Americas), with ramifications throughout the the Iberian fatherland, the Caribbean, Mexico, and the U.S. Southwest... need I say more? Lovely, lovely people but... http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

To paraphrase the famous line from La Traviata, the "populous desert we call New York" seems wonderfully restful and relaxing right now! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

dear victor -

that's a wonderful thing you did for your mother-in-law. i read your posting last night and i'm still smiling about it.

maybe you're going to heaven afterall...

did she not play at all during the time she spent without an instrument?

sincerely - bill

Thank you, Bill — and thank you all for your welcome back wishes!

No, she did not. A remarkable thing, though, the mandolin: A good 62 years later and she just picked it up and started picking away, with that great smile you see on the picture.

As for heaven... http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif
