Here's a couple of pics of the new to me 'used' Ellis A style i bought recently (pics.courtesy of TAMCO UK).Trevor is a far better photographer than myself when it comes to pics. of instruments,;)

Nice Ivan, It does seem really hard to capture the beauty of an Ellis finish in a picture. I think Tom himself actually does the best job of photographing his mandolins

And your own Ellis sounds fantastic! :

I had been meaning to ask you what you were playing in your videos. You kept the headstock out of the picture in most of the ones that I saw.

Oh, I get it. This was a 'bump' by somebody of a post you made in 2009. Presumably it was posted before you got your own Ellis. At any rate, keep up the great work on the videos, I intend to use them for more tune learning. (NFI)

Yeah I was just hoping some others would post pics so I can drool until mine finally shows up.

I've learned a lot of tunes from Barons YouTube page :mandosmiley:

Here's my Ellis A5 Special. I took the first pic. The second was taken at Ellis World Headquarters before I ever saw the mandolin. After four years he still has three pix of this mandolin (#'s 1, 2, and 11) in his A5 gallery, which delights me.

Thats great Dan! I love the block inlays, i think it really pulls together the more modern look with the art deco headstock and inlay.

Heres the ones im waiting for if anyone cares

Im really not worried about whether it will sound good or not, I know i love the Ellis tone. This one has a thinner neck than anything ive played so far though and im a little anxious to see if it will work for me. I do have smaller hands, so maybe ill actually prefer it. All i can do is wait and see

'Course we care. Beautiful instrument, stupendous back. Do you know if it's red or sugar maple?

I believe that mine is the only one that he's built with this combination of appointments: gold pearl block inlays, EVO frets, gold hardware, fossilized walrus ivory nut, deco headstock and inlay, sugar maple, triple bound. The thing is a lot fancier than I am!

Here is my Ellis. Not really an A5 since it has an oval hole. It's really beautiful and has a deep complex tone. The pictures are from Fiddler's Green shop in Texas, where I bought it. Tom replaced the gold hardware with silver for me. I just love it. I don't think he's built many of the oval holes. Tamco had a blonde one a year or two ago. Mike Compton played this one at a house concert I hosted which was a pretty big thrill for me.

Baron, yours was the first Ellis that I ever played, I think. You and a friend were busking in front of Thornes Market, and when I commented on it you let me give it a try, which was very nice. You don't see many buskers with $5000 instruments!
