I guess 50 is a minor milestone, but it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling nonetheless. It's the blacktop one, headed for the UK. Thanks for looking!

Oh my BIRDS EYE goodness. Those are all just incredible! And that birds eye back is mighty tasty looking. I know there are going to be some very very happy mandolinist soon.

Keep up the great work and I can't wait to see the next 50+

Amazing (as usual!) Andrew...and I am sure they sound off the charts great, too.

For those of you who haven't played one of Andrews mandolins, they are fantastic and the craftsmanship is as close to perfect as can be.

Incredible work Andrew! The peghead on #50 has a very cool pre art deco kind of look. I really like it.
I'd be jealous except that I get to play #40 everyday!! Thanks for making the world a better place, one mandolin at a time!

Andrew,
Wow, incredible workmanship and artistic beauty in those mandos. I too love the headstocks. Congrats on the #50 milestone!

Love the art- deco headstocks. What was the inspiration for
those designs? Looks like some jewelry designs I was looking at art-deco for my Poe headstock.

Hmmm... I think I recognize that blacktop one. What WAS the inspiration for the headstock?!?
;)

Well done!! 50 is a nice round, impressive number!

What kind of tailpiece is on the blonde A5?

Thanks folks! Brad and I originally designed the headstock for his mandolin (which I built a few years ago) using the Bill James "Lewis" (Michael Lewis) style tailpiece as a guide. He and I also designed the inlay that's on that blonde A5. I believe I loosly modelled it after an old stained-glass art deco window I found on the web. The new blacktop is pretty much the same as Brad's except for the new inlay. That inlay was designed by the owner-to-be, using the soundholes as inspiration. I'll let him take credit should he so desire.

Beautiful work Andrew! That vine headstock looks familiar. No. 41 is headed out to a bluegrass festival with me this weekend.

Best,
Joe

At that quality level, I'd be very happy with 50. Good enough to eat!

# 50 is coming my way. The headstock design was by me but inspired by the sound holes and some designs Andrew sent me. I will report back when its here, its in the post so may be a while (I currently have one mandolin that's been held by customs for 10 days!).

Since the consensus seems to be #50 is perfection, how will you improve upon perfection? :)

Outstanding work Andy, and congrats on refining and perfecting your craft!

Congratulations on number 50, Andrew. All that dedication to the art and craft is something to celebrate. The new instruments are beautiful.

I can't get over the back on no. 50. It looks like it's 3D. Andrew - is that big leaf maple? It's like a cross between quilted and flamed figuring. I'm not sure I've ever seen anything like it.

Thanks folks! Ya, that's bigleaf, Joe. I see that linear quilt pattern occasionally, and often you see quilt transition into curly figure.
