I was wondering if the additional options in the social groups, could be expanded like they are in the regular message boards, to include attachments?

The developers of this product have not enabled that functionality. I'd like to see this myself and their support forum has received plenty of requests for that, but I'm guessing there might be a good reason why it's not. If a future upgrade contains this capability we'll certainly make it available.

Scott, after I posted this request, I read the discussion concerning the mp3, and mandopete's work around, and figured that would be what we'd have to do on the social groups. Not a big deal, as long as we know how to do it. I've posted the directions on how to do it on our growing group, "The Song-A-Week Social Group"... Other groups may be just talking, but we are DOING something!

Thanks so much for all you do!

just a thought: if groups have those options which are available to the main message board, won't you run the risk of having many message boards? ... requiring more monitors?

(i was a safety monitor in the 5th grade ... its pastoral white sash and badge rested heavily.)

I've come to think of Social Groups as a more focused extension of the message board. In other words it's like having a section devoted to just David Grisman (http://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/group.php?groupid=74) or Collings Mandolins (http://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/group.php?groupid=6) rather than just Bluegrass (http://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=41) or Looking For Information (http://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=48).

As I understand it the person who starts the Social Group is responsible for it's moderation if that's what you mean by "monitor".

I think the social groups are a cool idea. I belong to several, and then kinda keep an eye on how the others are developing.

The most active group is The Song-A-Week Social group. Our goal is to have a song (tune) a week, different genres, where our members learn it, and submit (or submit if they already know it) them playing it. In addition to the Song a Week, we are also encouraging our members to submit videos of them playing whatever tune they want (each tune getting it's own 'discussion') and then other members adding to those, as well.

Hopefully, once it gets off the ground, we'll have a great assortment of different tunes, different genres, different skill levels, that one can access and learn from!

Our membership is growing daily, and we are a very active group! Please join us!
