I've got a Phon Tuner on my Palm Treo (it comes in versions for other phones as well). It listens on your phone's mike (old-timer's gripe: NOT "mic") and displays how far you are from the appropriate note in two ways and it shows the exact frequency of the string you've just picked. It is set for singing, viola, violin, and guitar and has a "custom" setting as well (it doesn't really hear low enough to catch the bottom string on an electric bass).
