Hello there everyone in the alternate world! I have just fallen in love with and bought a new Mandobird!
Can anyone point me in the right direction for sourcing a few beginner tips and songs to play?
Many thanks

Marcus

Antipodean fraternal greetings from pommie HQ!

Well, under the "miscellaneous" head there are a number of stabs at something entitled "whiskey b4 breakfast" (sub-head of same name). I do believe "journey bear" recorded an interpretation with a mandobird, which you may find interesting. Really though, it pretty much depends on you, & what you want to achieve with the instrument (or if you are playing with/for others, what they are demanding of you). Find something you like, get the printed music (or at least a chord sheet) & see what you can do with it. I quite liked the "101 hits for buskers" series (until they started repeating the songs) with melody line & guitar chords which according to the fly sheet is printed in Australia. I doubt that there are many similar publications with mando chord boxes, though I'm sure others will advise. Just don't expect to be brilliant at it overnight!

What styles do you like mate? Are you wanting to play Jazz standards? Bluegrass? You could check out the lessons and songs on this website. Herehttp://www.mandolincafe.com/lessons.html or herehttp://www.mandolincafe.com/tabarc.html

Should be something there to suit you :D

Where in Oz are you?

Hey there OZ,
Live in Sydney, spend a fair bit of time in Scone (3hrs away) and a fair bit of time in Melbourne, Shepparton, Byron/Casino and the Sth Coast for work.
You?
Not too sure what particular style I am into other than Bluegrass and a bit of everything.
Love mucking around with my Tenor G and Bird but am ####. Have just picked up a teacher for the TG but our times don't match up too well.
Think I might have a look at the 101 Buskers jobbie and see if I can get someone to help with the adaptions.
Current ultimate aim is to plug along in the background and actually be part of something I take for granted.
Go well
M
