Only slight mando content here, but the April 15 issue of American Way magazine (given away on American Airlines flights) has a very nice article about the C. F Martin company. It has a great photo layout, with some cool luthiery shots and some interesting stuff I didn't know about the company. One bit of trivia is that the line, "I pulled into Nazareth..." from the song "The Weight" by Robbie Robertson, was inspired by the name of the town on the label of Robertson's 1927 000-45. The article also tells the story of how the company nearly went under in the 80's and how it came back.
In some almost-mando content, the next article in the same magazine is about comic actor Thomas Lennon, who plays Lt. Jim Dangle in the series "Reno 911." He is pictured out of character playing a vintage Gibson 17-fret tenor banjo, and judging by the chord he's holding, I'd say it's tuned GDAE.
