FYI - Dan had major surgery on his foot yesterday to correct an injury that occurred some time back. He's going to be off work for several weeks and for the next two at least, he'll be off his feet with the foot up in the air. Chatted a bit with him today and he posted these photos on Facebook (yes, I too have been sucked in to that swirling vortex to external time wasting by my daughter and her first boyfried--oy).

I advised him before the surgery to get a magic marker and mark spots all over his body with comments like, "please don't remove this item, I use it...".

Get well soon, chicken man. ~:>

Get well Dan.

Let's hope that Dan retains all his appendages. But that is a great tune. Another gem from the great Bobby Clark. I've been working on it for years

Remember Dan, minor surgery is surgery on someone else...

Get Well!

Get well soon Dan. - An Irish,Mandolin playing friend of mine recently had a knee replacement op. - in typical fashion,he asked if he could have it replaced with a Lloyd Loar Mandolin, unfortunately, this was not forthcoming,

Get well soon Dan, if you find you're in too much pain to play while you're laid up just send your instruments over to me and I'll keep them played in for you

Our prayers are with you for a speedy recovery Dan.

I recently had a cardiac ablation done under general anethesia. It took about a week for the haze to clear and for my fingers to figure out what they were doing again.

Being a guy that has been through things like this before I developed the following answer for the inevitable question that is asked of people on crutches. When you hear "What happened to your foot?" Just answer "Which one?"

Medical haze all in my brain
Lately my tenor banjo don't feel the same
Its so darn heavy pushin my foot to the floor
'scuse me while I hit the mando store...

Medical haze my mind is fried
Don't know if this gown is tied
takin some photos makin sure it's closed
Playin' Irish music without my clothes.

decend into medical haze induced TB or mando solos... repeat.

I could go on... but I shouldn't

Dan, hope you are better soon! Good thing it wasn't one of your hands: you wouldn't have been able to pick while you recovered!

Now you're gonna have to change your tag line to...

"Keep me safe, one-legged banjo man!"

Get well soon!

(How are the NHS meds?)

Oh no, Dan, you're in NHS's hands? Get well VERY quickly and make your way outta there, dont take any MRSA with you!

Have you checked they treated the right leg, I don't mean the none-left leg, of course, just the right one? Or else you might not have one left over...

Get well soon, Dan. I recently had a similar procedure done, and here's what my physical therapist told me:

Walk hard
Hard
Down life's
Rocky road

Walk bold
Hard
At my creed
My code

I've been sworn and slandered and ridiculed too
Had to struggle everyday my whole life through
Seen my share of the worse that this world can give
But I still got a dream and a burning rage to live

Walk hard
Hard
When they say
You're all done

Walk bold
Hard
Though they say
You're not the one

Even if you've been told time and time again
That you're always gonna lose and you're never gonna win
Gotta keep that vision in your mind's eye
When you're standing on top of a mountain high

You know when I was a boy
Folks used to say to me
"Slow down Dewey, don't walk so hard"
And I used to tell them
Life's a race, and I'm in it to win it
And I'll walk as damn hard as I please
How do I walk boys?

{HARD}

When I meet my maker on my dying day
Gonna look him in the eye and by god I'll say
I gave my word and my word was good
I took it in the face and walked as hard as I could

Walk Hard
Walk Hard
Walk Hard
Walk Hard
