Hi, I understand that the 250s mandolin is known as a "banjo killer". I was curious how the 160 model compares in sound and loudness. Thanks for your help!:mandosmiley:

Also, why do these two mandolins look different even though they are said to be the same model?

Both of those do look like the current KM-160. it is a major difference in lighting. The mandolins look somewhere in-between. :) The mandolin store pic is a little closer to the actual color.

The KM-160 is a great mandolin deal. I would put it on par with the old KM-250S model, but the NEW KM-250 models (no S) is an entirely different mandolin compared to the old version. It is a nice upgrade over the 160 with better tone, and a radiused fingerboard. The KM-160 has a 12 fret neck joint, and the KM-250 has a 14th fret joint. If it is within budget, the 250 is the nicer instrument, but the KM-160 is more than adequate itself. :)

Hugh - I took a look at the pics and indeed it is the lighting issue. Our pics look more true to the actual color. We just started carrying this model and I have to say I was pretty impressed with it. I did not see much difference in sound between it and the KM250. I think the radius on the 250 is the biggest difference as it enhances the playbility a bit.
Thanks,
Dennis
