Guitarrogance, n.
The state of being so myopically focused on six-string chordophones tuned EAGDBE that one either (a) forgets or (b) never notices in the first place that other classes of chordophone exist -- leading to Craigslist ads with headlines like "Gibson for sale" and body copy that never directly mentions which type of instrument is being sold.

Mandelusion: The belief that a better, more expensive mandolin will make you a better player.

Now we've all heard of some mandolins as having "bell tone", but how about...

Cowbelltone, n.

The ability for a mandolin to really explore the studio space and elicit a "more cowbelltone!" exhaltation from all involved.

And I was thinking about Clarinetwork Administrator, but I'll leave that for some other clever person.

Then there's "mandophobic" - a condition most often experienced by spouses in which there is an irrational resentment of all things mandolin.

That mandobass looks great. That's obviously not a vintage intrument.

"banjovi"

I know there is an instrument out there by that monicker, but man the things that come to mind when I see the word BanJovi..... Richie Sambora at a BG festival? Hayseed Dixie's next project, a tribute to Bon Jovi? A head bangin' hill billy?

Any bluegrassers out there have a definition for "Banjoblivious"?

This condition is difficult to define, but is readily obvious at jam sessions when the banjo player(s) have that glassy-eyed stare as they play over the top of every vocal, mandolin, guitar break, etc.

I play banjo from time to time, and I have to admit this is a condition which I am afflicted with occasionally. If I can manage to get the glassy-eyed haze to clear, I can usually tell from the looks of others that I am "Banjoblivious".

These should be obvious...(they are painfully so to me):

Mandolinept

Mandolinadequate

Mandolincapable

Mandolinnocent (until proven guilty)

Mandolinament (for after those long jams and sessions)

Mandolinfant (Sierra Hull comes to mind...)

...ok, someone else take over...

Django Fret
Mar-13-2009, 8:20pm
OK, here goes...

Mandolintune (When all eight strings are right on)

Mandolinsolent (A rude player)

Mandolincontinence (Having no control while waiting your turn during jam sessions)

Mandolintelligence (When others think you play better than you really can)

Mandolinfrequent (Times that you don't practice as much as you should)

Mandolinsolvent (After MAS has depleted all of your cash)

Next up...

The mando-no second. The awful feeling that drops your stomach to the floor faster than your mandolin when the end pin fails and down it falls.

"Mandolin-a-Gadda-da-vida", from the very rare LP "Iron Butterfly play Bluegrass favourites"

The 10-minute drum solo on the original is replaced by a 15-minute chromatic banjo break..

Essential listening :crying: :)

That mandobass looks great. That's obviously not a vintage intrument.

As far as I know it was made in England, but nobody knows by whom. I one interview Simon mentioned that it has strap buttons and they wondered for whom they were attached.

Joel Spaulding
Mar-15-2009, 7:22am
From Simon's website:

It bears a label 'Robin Greenwood', a maker from Bournmouth, England

Here's a link to his site (http://www.greenwoodguitars.co.uk/) .

Ms. James coaxes a fine tone from that instrument- quite better than the very few I have heard.

Has anyone used mandobassic?

There are some pretty clever ones here. I'm glad no one had the bad taste to try "-licious." I'm so weary of people attaching -licious to their name or body part. Not clever at all.
