I am trying to help a friend date a gibson mandolin. It is a f hole, looks like an adjustable bridge, no scrolls. I think it is an a model. The only number that can be found is 1057b-18 or it could be 10578-18. Any help would be greatly appreciated
thank you Bob

Looks like a 40's A-50. I don't have my books here.

The script "Gibson" puts it in the 40's or earlier. It looks very much like a 1937 A-50 I saw recently except that one didn't have the strong sunburst. Is it bound on the back? If so it is an A-50, if not an A-40. The finger rest looks the same and the 1937 one. The numbers you gave may be factory order numbers. Gibson should be able to date it.
