Watch this space..I'll post pictures as soon as I take delivery of my (long-awaited) PML. The last ETA I got from Hans was for the end of April. Red Spruce top and gold James t/p & matching Waverly pegs, with a pickguard, s/s frets on a 1 3/16" at the nut. 10" compound radiused fretboard, ending in a scalloped extension w/faux frets. The neck profile I took from Mike Marshall's Loar last Thanksgiving (although my fretboard won't have the 'aircraft carrier' overhang)!

I feel you, Ken. I got so antsy I took a trip last week to uncle ken, for a 'visit' with his new-born PML. I spoke with Hans yesterday, who should be back in the workshop tomorrow. I too am having a hard time with the wait, but I still hope he takes his time on it! The late Larry Brown, a (much missed) local repair guy, had a plaque over his workbench that read, "The slower I put 'em together, the slower they fall apart". My MF5 will do just fine until PML's ETA of the end of April. In time to perform with at Topanga? http://topangabanjofiddle.org/

I think you're right, 'zilla, and thanks! Hans says it's louder than his own, but doesn't reckon it'll be ready by Topanga..I'll be playing the MF5 for our show.

Got these from Hans this morning. This is what he did for me on my birthday yesterday, & I appreciate that, as it's a horrible part of the job!

That is beautiful! I am definitely jealous. You should be proud to soon own such a piece of craftsmanship and Hans should be proud of the work he's doing. That is such a clean, neat peghead.

Thanks, Pana - I am, he is, we are, I am sure (that is of us being proud in our respective rôles in this creation)! Of course, the peg-head is what it's all about, but you can imagine my excitement when Hans told me he'd throw in a complete rest-of-a-mandolin to go with it, at no extra charge!

That's lucky, that! Can't do too much with just a peghead. I'm just extra impressed with the cleanliness of his work there. Making it look good really seems to separate the men from the boys.

I couldn't agree with you more. Attention to detail is key.

The best part is this. With a builder like Hans, you know his first priority is a great sounding mandolin. If he had that much time to devote to cosmetics, he's really got the sound part down pat.

Lovely instrument. Hans has very nicely reproduced the slight bulge in the fingerboard extension, as per the original Loars. Very few luthiers get that detail right.

Gorgeous! It looks a lot like a Loar, Let me guess, Mandopixie couldn't decide on an inlay so you made it a little bit of everything?:)) Really fine looking mando, will we get to hear it?

This is the first I've seen of it myself! Great job, Hans. Yep - that's (soon-to-be) my baby, and I don't mean maybe..As soon as that varnish is dry it'll be a flying F, and I'll find a way to post some sound some time after it reaches me (unless Hans can do it)!

mandomania - if I had photos I certainly would post. To be fair here it has only been 10 days since the last round of photos! Looks like Hans has been quite busy in that time! :)

Hans, mine is really sounding good after 5 mos. of playing. The SS frets don't show any wear at all. Usually by this time regular frets have some noticeable divots.

Glad to hear it Ken, give 'er about 2 years and it'll be there. I have one I built a couple of years ago in for a checkup, and it sounds great.

All right... everyone else seems to know, but I will ask anyway... what is a PML and what do the letters stand for? I figure L = Loar... is that so?
